Going from best friends to dating
Whether it’s strangers, friends, or family, do you find people constantly asking if you and your best friend are a couple?
This might be funny the first few times, but if you’re constantly shielding off questions regarding your romantic status and getting comments about what a “cute couple” you are, it can get annoying—fast.
First Thessalonians 4:1-8 admonishes us not to wrong or "defraud" our brother or sister by implying a marital level of commitment (through sexual involvement) when it does not exist.
As I've discussed before, a broad (but sound) implication of this passage is that "defrauding" could include inappropriate emotional — as well as physical — intimacy.
Obviously, I don’t know much about the writer, but clearly she is not your average girl.
She is articulate, funny, and opinionated at the very least.
So is the trend toward intimate friendships between single men and women a good thing? If you haven't read my previous articles on biblical dating, you'll be helped in thinking through this issue by reading "Biblical Dating: How It's Different From Modern Dating." Based on some of the principles found there, let me offer a couple of practical reasons why I believe such friendships to be generally unwise, and then I'll suggest a positive role for friendship among singles in the Christian community.
Some would consider this profile to be too negative and opinionated, but I strongly believe that “playing it safe” is not the right way to go when it comes to online dating.), I make it a point to find the time for doing the things I like and spending the time with people who I care about, and I absolutely refuse to become a salve of my work or other obligations.I like people who have brains, humor and wit, spunk, self-confidence (not narcissism), resilience, strength of character, a willingness to learn and be taught (humility), those who have been through some sh-t in life and pushed through it (I am not going to make your lemonade for you). There’s something to be said for caution, as dating your best friend can have some icky consequences, but there are also super sexy benefits to falling in love with your best pal. If you and your bestie have had a fight that felt more like a breakup, then things have definitely taken a romantic turn. Does he tell you about the newest video game coming out, his weird issues with his mom, or the hair he found in his soup?
Signs you’re dating your best friend already So have you crossed the line from best friends into something more? Sometimes, our friends catch on to things before we do. Sure, we all have intense fights with friends from time to time, but if this particular fight leaves you with knots in your stomach, makes you cry, or results in a getting-back-together-like reunion, you may be closer to coupledom than you think. Do you tell him about friend/family/workmate drama, Sephora’s new value palettes, and how your period cramps are killing you?
You are much better off speaking your mind, as that will significantly increase your chances of finding a reader who will relate and agree with what you say.
